Together with the MEARetriever, the GTBug system provides a unique combination of simplicity, functionality and ease of use. Soil moisture readings and soil temperature readings can be collected in the field in a matter of seconds. The data can analysed on the spot or taken back to the office for interpretation on a computer. The GTBug works with both the GBHeavy and GBLite gypsum blocks, and up to 3 soil moisture sensors and 1 temperature sensor can be connected to a GTBug."
HOW IS IT USED? Readings are taken automatically every two hours by the GTBug data logger. The readings are stored on a memory inside the GTBug. There is enough memory for 20 days of readings. The stored data is transferred to the MEARetriever by wireless connection.
To download data, tap the GTBug to wake it up, hold the MEARetriever within 1 metre of the GTBug and the data is transferred. The MEARetriever display will show current readings and confirm the successful transfer of data.
To see changes in soil moisture and temperature over time, you can scroll back through all the readings stored in the MEARetriever. This allows in-the-field assessments to be made without the use of a laptop computer.
The MEARetriever can download 100 sites, each site having 3 gypsum block sensors and 1 temperature sensor. The data stored in the memory of the MEARetriever is then downloaded to a PC using the software program provided.
The software displays the data graphically and in table form. Full and refill points can be set for each site and data can be exported easily to other programs.
When the gypsum blocks need to be replaced simply cut the wires and reconnect the new sensors to the GBug using Scotchlocks.
